J.D. Penner, CTP(CD)
J.D. (John David) Penner is a treasury management and payments professional, often sought out for his expertise in the industry, and currently providing leadership, consulting services, and training in the field.
J.D. formed JD Penner Enterprises Inc. in 2019 with a mandate to deliver services and training to financial institutions and corporate treasury professionals who want to grow their capabilities, optimize their talent and services, and make an impact in treasury management and payments globally.
During his more than 25 years of experience in treasury management and payments, J.D. has held roles with RBC, Scotiabank, Bank of America, CIBC, IBM, Intellect Design Arena Ltd., and in working capital management outside of banking. In his leadership and consulting roles, J.D. is responsible for engaging clients, sales, product, and technology teams to guide the development, sales, provision, and usage of treasury management and payment solutions which meet financial institution and large corporate needs, while also leading industry initiatives. In his most recent roles, he has led the development of services used by financial institutions to serve the payments needs of their business clients, equipped the teams mandated to sell and manage those services, while providing thought leadership both internally and externally. J.D. is a regular presenter in industry forums and has published several articles and blogs for his 1,600+ followers on LinkedIn and for corporate entities, such as IBM, on their external channels.
J.D. served as Canada’s representative on the Swift Corporate Advisory Group from 2013 to 2019, which advises the Swift Board of Directors on matters of interest to corporate users, and he co-chaired one of Payments Canada’s Modernization working groups. As a treasury professional, J.D. is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals’ Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) Exam committee, which sets standard for the CTP designation every three years. J.D. earned his Certified Treasury Professional designation in 2004, and his Mastery of Canadian Treasury Management in 2006.
